Do you know what the certification logos found on certain cosmetic products mean?
It’s not always easy to find your way around. And yet understanding them can help us choose the product that will suit us best.
1-The Ecocert label
Ecocert is a French company created in 1991 which acts as a certification body and issues 2 recognized certifications in the field of cosmetics
The difference between COSMOS Organic and COSMOS Certified lies mainly in the level of certification and the requirements regarding the composition of the products.
🌱COSMOS Organic : This is the most demanding label in the COSMOS standard. For a product to be certified COSMOS Organic , at least 95% of the ingredients of natural origin must come from organic farming. In addition, products must meet strict criteria regarding environmental impact, manufacturing processes, packaging, etc. This label guarantees a high proportion of organic ingredients in the product.
🌱COSMOS Certified : This label includes two subcategories: COSMOS Organic and COSMOS Natural . The COSMOS Certified certification attests that the product complies with the general specifications of the COSMOS standard, but without the requirement that a large proportion of the ingredients be organic. Products under this certification are checked for their ecological impact and composition, but do not necessarily have a majority of organic ingredients.

2-The Eurofeuille label
The European organic label, also known as the Euroleaf, is recognizable by the green leaf with 12 stars.
Its criteria are:
🌱 Transparency towards the consumer
🌱 Environmental and climate protection
🌱 Conservation and increase of soil fertility
🌱 Maintaining biodiversity
🌱 Respect for natural cycles and animal welfare
🌱 Limitation of synthetic chemicals
🌱 No use of GMOs
🌱 At least 95% of agriculturally sourced ingredients are organic.
3-The USDA organics label
The USDA organic label is an American label validated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The FDA is responsible for verifying the safety and compliance of cosmetics with applicable regulations.
The USDA is responsible for managing the “organic” label for any food or agricultural product.
This label is therefore very limiting because it only supports ingredients certifiable by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The total formula must contain 100% organic ingredients for the product to carry the logo on its packaging.
This double validation certifies you a product of a high level of requirement, very natural and organic.
